Smokin’ Dro Week 8 – “Ric Flair”

Posted by J. Tinsley on October 28, 2010

Do you know what today is? It’s “Smokin’ Dro’s” eight week anniversary. Pending my first grade math is still sharp, eight weeks equates to two months which means a long-term relationship for those with a fear of commitment. As with any bond, however, arguments will happen. So what better way to tie it in than with one of Hip-Hop’s most unique wordsmiths and a song titled after one of sports and entertainment’s most iconic sh!t talkers. WOOOOO!

Smokin’ Dro Week 4 – “You Know What It Is”

Posted by J. Tinsley on September 27, 2010

The tape with Greg Street was enough Dro for one week. Now we’re back like a nagging ex, so put the USPA down for a moment. Leaving the A, this week we head up North to reminisce when Dro broke bread with the man who has more facts than Chuck Norris.

Smokin’ Dro: Week 1 – “They Don’t Really Know About Dro”

Posted by J. Tinsley on August 30, 2010

“The revolution has always been in the hands of the young. The young always inherit the revolution.” – Huey Newton

A few weeks ago I informed you the Young Dro revolution was upon us. Well, today marks the official birth. What we have here is a new series I have effectively dubbed “Smokin’ Dro.” It may not seem like it, but the man with more adjectives than an AP grammar class has only one album to claim to his Grand Hustle portfolio (two if you include 2001′s independent I Got That Dro). At some point though, we will all be blessed with his long-awaited sophomore LP P.O.L.O. Until then, I’ll highlight a random Dro record every week really for no other reason than my appreciation for his music. Will it get the album out any quicker? Most likely, it probably won’t. But really, could it hurt? Read the rest of this entry »

Pill feat. Young Dro, Rocko & AllStar – “Dope Boys”

Posted by J. Tinsley on August 10, 2010

Someone needs to get someone at Grand Hustle on the horn and get this Young Dro project moving. It’s been a minute since I heard new music from a guy who was once considered Pau Gasol to T.I.’s Kobe. Nowadays it’s all about B.o.B. – an artist I’m a fan of (dropped purchase-worthy debut LP), but a totally different artist from Dro.

Turns out the next place I’ll turn to hear some new material from the Polo Don is Southern Slang 16. On the tape is a Pill record entitled “Dope Boys’” featuring the likes of All-Star (who also produces the track), Rocko and Dro. Off first few listens, the only thing I’m not a huge fan of the hook, but the verses make up for that. Well, Pill’s verse was dope and one that shows how life is changing (yet, staying the same) for the Pink City native. However, it’s a reason I’ve focused on Dro this much so far. Jamie Foxx Feat. Justin Timberlake & T.I. – “Winner” (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by T. Adeyemi on March 25, 2010

“Turn pain to progression in every studio session/Passion into perfection/To failure, I’m an exception…”

Looks like time away didn’t hurt Clifford’s wordplay. March 26 may be his official release date, but that’s not going to stop T.I. from hitting the ground running early. The King appears on the completed version of Jamie Foxx’s “Winner” alongside a guy he’s had a few hits with back in the day, Justin Timberlake. If I was a betting man (and I am at times), I’d say this will likely end up being Jamie’s first single for his forthcoming LP. Why else would you land two pop culture superstars for one record?

In related news, if there is a way Grand Hustle can slide in a Mike Bigga album alongside Tip’s and Bobby’s, consider me one happy camper. Either that or a Grand Hustle type compilation album. T.I. leading the charge. B.o.B. riding shotgun blowing kush out the window. Mike ready to unleash a scathing 16 at a moment’s notice. The occasional Big Kuntry offering. And on top of all that, colorful descriptions thanks to Grand Hustle’s English professor, Young Dro. Yeah, let’s make that happen.

Download – Jamie Foxx Feat. Justin Timberlake & T.I. – “Winner”

First seen: Legend’s

P.S. Anyone know if Timberlake has a new album coming out anytime soon? It’s been like four years since the last one.

“Down With The King Pt. 2?” (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by T. Adeyemi on January 29, 2010

By now, it’s already been let out the bag T.I. has been in the studio recording new music since his release to a halfway house in Atlanta. With the that in mind, the anticipation to hear that music is often comes in the form of one question? What will he talk about now that he’s out? The question is only going to increase in frequency as Tip nears a full release date. The official LP will more than likely surface during the latter part of this year. However, since the public’s hunger for music is where it’s at, an official mixtape wouldn’t be a bad idea. A Gangsta Grillz sounds even better.

Young Dro – I Don’t Know Yall (ft. Yung LA)

Posted by Mr. Put On on November 3, 2009

.Vodpod videos no longer available.

Young Dro and Yung L.A. are to cats that the south can definitely depend on. With Triple C’s putting up terrible numbers, T.I. in jail, and Lil Wayne headed the same place, the two yungins (pun intended) are always refreshing. Speaking from the standpoint of a critic of all things ‘Grade A’, this video is exceptional. It’s style, quality, and concept reflect innovation and creativity in an industry that becomes ever more uniform. It’s good to see some artists are still breaking the mold, doing videos back at home, and exploring new ideas to make their pieces works of art. Check out Mike Epps and @lilduval in the background clownin’. Props to IMRichBroke.com (@lilduval‘s website) for the break

YOUNG DRO FEAT. YUNG LA – "TAKE OFF" VIDEO

Posted by J. Tinsley on May 15, 2009

Keeping it Grand Hustle for a moment, the first visual off Young Dro’s sophomore album, P.O.L.O. (Players Only Live Once), courtesy of Legend’s crib. Now that they’ve apparently gotten Sammy The Bull out of the equation, maybe the label can go back to promoting the talented artist they do have. For some reason, I can’t shake the feeling like we’ve been here before though.

PAY HOMAGE TO THE HORSE

Posted by J. Tinsley on April 30, 2009

“Now I got so many horses bitches call me Polo…”–(c) Rick Ross “Maybach Music 2”

Kanye came in the game pledging his allegiance towards it and Young Dro came out the womb with it on.  The proverbial “it” being Ralph Lauren, the clothing and the man. I can’t sit here and act like I’ve been a Polo fanatic my entire life, but ever since my boy Will put me on roughly four years ago, the good times sure have outweighed the bad.
