Bun B: “I Don’t Feel Like The Best Music From Me Has Been Done Yet.” (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by Mr. Put On on May 25, 2010

It’s a good and bad thing that Bun B is so closely associated with Pimp C. He’s a reminder that the spirit of Sweet James will always cast over Hip-Hop. However, it’s also a reminder that we will never see another UGK album again. I’ve always said Bun has handled that situation like the OG he is. His propensity to gravitate towards (and accept) the younger generation when it wasn’t the “cool” thing to do was some stand up sh#t as well.

Bun has always been the type of guy to keep it moving. Recently, YN caught up with the Trill O.G. to discuss his new album, Trill OG. Specifically, his studio sessions and respect for Drake. Read the rest of this entry »

VIBE'S INTERVIEW WITH BUN B

Posted by J. Tinsley on May 29, 2009

Simply put, when Bun talks, I listen. As a proud UGK alumni (class of 2006), there is no bias involved when I say Bun is one of the realest/trillest people to ever come through hip-hop. With classic after classic after classic attached to his resume and no known antagonists, it’s safe to say that whatever room Bun was in to, people take notice.

Recently, VIBE caught up with the man who immortalized the “Free Pimp C” movement to hear him speak on variety of subjects including (Keep reading…)

"THE PURSUIT OF PERFECTION…"

Posted by J. Tinsley on April 27, 2009

Perfection is something often sought, but very rarely found. Spawned by one of the most underrated movies, artists and songs of all time, Willie Hutch’s “I Choose You” as seen on “The Mack”, the now legendary collaboration between Port Arthur’s UGK and Atlanta’s OutKast, “International Players Anthem”, achieved perfection, and if not, it came damn close.  Unfortunately now known as one of Pimp C’s last appearances, the record successfully managed to blend everything that was right (or at least should be) not only with southern hip-hop, but hip as a whole.

The fact that it wasn’t exactly a “party record” per say, but still managed to achieve a high level of mainstream success was testament to the fact that every song needing to have a thumping 808 behind it wasn’t exactly true. Every time this record manages to appear on my iTunes, I can’t help but to listen in awe. Looking at the topic from a broad perspective, narrowing the debate to this decade alone, the number of “perfect songs” only takes a backseat to the number of “perfect albums”, which is a completely different discussion.

"What I Did With My Tuesday…"

Posted by J. Tinsley on April 1, 2009

I kept it Texas, of course, by copping the last official studio album from arguably the greatest duo of all time.

And yes, I am fully aware that today is Wednesday.

"What You Know 'Bout Them Texas Boys…"

Posted by J. Tinsley on March 19, 2009

“H-Town, I’m a shout that out till I’m up in heaven with Pimp and ‘Pac…”

I almost slipped up. My creed to never listen to more than three leaked tracks from an album (before I get the entire thing) was almost broken.  Luckily, I was about halfway through this Texas collab when I caught myself. The stop button became my best friend right before UGK began laying game in the form of lyrics.

With that said, Texas may not have the stranglehold on hip-hop as it did in 2005, but (Keep reading…)

"And it's still UGK 4 Life…"

Posted by J. Tinsley on March 15, 2009

Even fourteen months after The Pimp’s passing, the legendary Houston duo, UGK, still garner nothing but respect from fans and artists alike, myself included.  Needless to say, the news of one more album from Bun and Tony Snow showed me that there was still some good left in the world AND that I would be laced with game one last time from Pimp Chad. With that said, it must be noted I’ve always been more of a Bun fan, but I will never (Keep reading…)

Young Chris feat. Wale & Bun B–Searching

Posted by J. Tinsley on February 5, 2009

“Misunderstood since birth for what it’s worth/ I’m on this never ending grind to find my place on this Earth…”–Bun B

This is a song that was released in pieces.  If you remember when Chris was doing his “30 verses, 30 days” campaign, one of the days was him rhyming over this beat.  A few weeks later, the version with him and Wale leaked. Now we have one of my favorite artists of all time lending a verse for already crazy record.  But wait, the plot gets even better. Read this…

The “Searching for an Outlet Global Campaign ” in which Young Chris invites fans from around the world to download, record and submit their verse for the opportunity to appear along side the critically acclaimed new allido/interscope recording artist Wale, the Legendary Bun-B and Young Chris himself on the stand out single form the 30 days 30 verses web campaign and mix tape. The final version will appear on the Highly anticipated forth coming Young Chris album “Now or Never” set to be released this year.

Fans are encouraged to rap, sing or even talk about “what they are searching for” Via SearchingforAnOutlet.com, YoungChris.com and supporting MySpace, Facebook, YouTube page and twitter feeds. YoungChris.com members will vote upon all Select verses with the final winners selected by Young Chris himself. Winners will then be invited to perform their version of the song along with Young Chris, Wale and Bun-B on local performances in their area.

This is the opportunity for all aspiring artists to have an outlet for their voice, their passion and their opinions. “It’s my hope to give anybody who is passionate enough to join me the opportunity to shine on the world stage, we all know what its like to be searching for an outlet especially in the state of the world today.” Christopher Ries aka (Young Chris)

Hell, if I could spit…I’d definitely give this a try.
