Jay-Z On MC Hammer: “I Didn’t Know I Was The First Person To Say That.”

Posted by J. Tinsley on November 3, 2010

Funny how @MCHammer is dissing Jay-Z, meanwhile, Hov bigs him up in his book, Decoded.B. Dot

For those that don’t know, Rap Radar’s own B. Dot recently cross the burning sands and became the newest member of the Illuminati. While that previous statement was a joke, he did call it damn near verbatim. Jay-Z sat down with Semtex for an interview on a list of topics. The number one surrounding Hov at the moment involves MC Hammer and his “diss” video, if you want to call it that.

The following audio clip is Shawn’s take on the entire nonsense.

Bun B: “I Don’t Feel Like The Best Music From Me Has Been Done Yet.” (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by Mr. Put On on May 25, 2010

It’s a good and bad thing that Bun B is so closely associated with Pimp C. He’s a reminder that the spirit of Sweet James will always cast over Hip-Hop. However, it’s also a reminder that we will never see another UGK album again. I’ve always said Bun has handled that situation like the OG he is. His propensity to gravitate towards (and accept) the younger generation when it wasn’t the “cool” thing to do was some stand up sh#t as well.

Bun has always been the type of guy to keep it moving. Recently, YN caught up with the Trill O.G. to discuss his new album, Trill OG. Specifically, his studio sessions and respect for Drake. Read the rest of this entry »

HIP-HOP IN 1981: 20/20 SPECIAL

Posted by J. Tinsley on May 15, 2009

If you’ve never paid attention to anything I have ever written, pay attention to this (and go back and read my older stuff). The magnitude of this clip is so far beyond words, I won’t even begin to go into full detail. As you can see by the labels on the video, this came directly from YN’s laboratory so ALL praises go to him and whoever else helped uncover this hidden gem.

This is a piece from 20/20 28 years ago on the emergence of a new genre of music, hip-hop. It may seem hard to believe now, but at one point, this thing we love was once considered a “trend”, a “fad” and something that would pass away in a few years. Then again, in 1981, we would probably never seen an African American as President of the United States either. Anyway, click play and watch history. That’s only if you are a true lover of the music If not, keep it moving.

Shout out to hip-hop’s human encyclopedia, YN. Also, click the link to see part II. I can’t jack the whole post, c’mon people, I pay respect where it’s due…

It pays to know people and have people know you.  Such is the case for OG Bobby Johnson aka Elliot Wilson bka YN.  In similar fashion to how he did with Asher Roth’s debut, YN attended a listening session at Def Jam headquarters and was able to hear the entire effort from Ricky’s third LP.

Posted by J. Tinsley on March 11, 2009

The word “intern” often invokes two distinct thoughts in the minds of American. First, HER.  Then, (Keep reading…)

Posted by J. Tinsley on March 7, 2009

We’re within 48 hours until March 9.  Not only will it mark the 12th anniversary of the Notorious B.I.G.’s untimely exit from this life, but it will also signify the beginning of the next force in online journalism, Rap Radar.  Until then, YN and B. Dot shown here (and Crystal who didn’t want to be on camera) grinding away in the RR Mansion. I guess Hammer is too good to pick up the phone though.

Elliot Wilson speaks on his impact on blogs, Rap Radar and more with Hip Hop Chronicle

Posted by J. Tinsley on February 21, 2009

Hip Hop Chronicle sits down with one of my personal influences in hip-hop journalism, Elliot “YN” Wilson.  He speaks on how he first broke into the field and how he feels he played apart in the massive success of blogs in today’s culture.  I’d be lying if his editorials didn’t influence me to start this site.  For those that don’t  know, his new online publication, in partnership with Paul Rosenberg (Eminem’s manager), launches March 9.  Who knows, I might end up there working for him…

Part 2 after the jump…
