Jim Jones Continues To Give Back

Posted by J. Tinsley on September 13, 2010

Jim Jones loves the kids and apparently he’s running for the title of the hood’s “Robin Hood.” You may remember earlier this year Capo stepping into a classroom and giving kids the run down on the music business. That act was well received by the public and Hip-Hop community alike. With that in mind, Jones is taking it a step further. Harlem’s own popped up at a school in the Bronx this past Saturday and blessed the people with laptops and iPod Touches.

Why? I’m not sure, but there’s now law stating you must have a reason to give back those less fortunate and remembering where you came from. Respect to Jim for the act of generosity and making sure his money goes to good use. Don’t expect to see this on your evening news though.

Props: KC

New Music From The Diplomats – “Salute”

Posted by T. Adeyemi on June 26, 2010

Dip…Dip…Dip Set! Guess who’s back like cooked colc crack? Indeed it seems that Cam’ron was in the kitchen cooking up the raw, and the product still seems to feel just that good. The Dipset movement of the early to mid 2000’s has forever been etched in Hip Hop history. This is evident by the street anthems that still provide a heavy crowd response at any club night across the U.S. But furthermore the group has managed to continue to create buzz in a together but separate roundabout way. Now however, it seems the Dipset reunion is complete with the release of new music featuring all the original members.

After running this track back about 10 times you can’t help but mentally travel back a few years to the times where these dudes were at the top of the game. Now as four seasoned vets in the game they all bring a little bit different sound. Read the rest of this entry »

Call It A Comeback: Dipset’s Reunion (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by T. Adeyemi on June 14, 2010

Best. News. Of. The. Year.

On Friday, at a construction site in Brooklyn, the big four, Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey, all got together and filmed a video to show the world a unified front!

It didn’t happen at SummerJam last week (Juelz had his own set, Jimmy was blocked from the building and Cam surprised the crowd with Vado during DJ Khaled’s set) but that doesn’t meant that the wheels haven’t been turning in the same direction behind the scenes.

Jimmy’s track record at venues is well documented. Freeky Zekey recently sat down with XXL and shed light on way Capo was AWOL at Summer Jam. Read the rest of this entry »

The Title Stays In Harlem (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by T. Adeyemi on May 2, 2010

Let it be known Elliott Wilson reminded me of this yesterday, so I can’t take full credit for the title. It was a hot mixtape though.

The internet was buzzing yesterday with Cam and Jimmy’s first public appearance together in a few years. It should go without saying how big of a moment this was. Miss Info even gave a play-by-play of the entire event and Twitter was buzzing at the sight. So if the reunion was “too late,” it sure as hell didn’t seem like it.

Who knows if we will ever see another official release from the faction formerly known asDipset, but you have to start somewhere. The other important event of the day was Jimmy’s squad winning the Converse Band of Brothers basketball tournament. Pretty much, just imagine the Rucker being transplanted to Atlanta. Somewhat. From what people told me it was your usual hood basketball game with more fouls than points and every player attempting to channel their inner LeBron or Dwayne Wade.

Jimmy’s team (including Cam suiting up) beat Shawty Lo/Pill/OJ the Juiceman’s squad by a score of 10-5. But let’s get back to this Cam/Jimmy mending of their friendship. This is good. And since we’re speaking about basketball, take a look at this line up: Read the rest of this entry »

The Harlem Renaissance (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by T. Adeyemi on April 20, 2010

Cam’ron and Jim Jones working on repairing their friendship shouldn’t be a surprise by now.Miss Info broke the news last night, automatically conjuring memories of years past. During the early to mid 2000’s, there wasn’t a group who had more of a cult following than The DiplomatsG-Unit, possibly, but the more they became worldwide superstars, that organic and natural feeling of authenticity with their music seemed to disappear.

The crew that Cam built was different though. They never sought mainstream acceptance, although it eventually came. Dipset’s rise to power blossomed as the internet became more and more of a key player in Hip-Hop (for better or worse). They never seemed to not have product on the street either – albums and/or mixtapes. They had a proven leader and a solid #2 man in Juelz Santana and everyone else played their role. In essence, they were somewhat like the first Young Money with more emphasis on the street image. Read the rest of this entry »

Catalog Catch Up: Jim Jones, Beanie Sigel & Joe Budden – “Where I’m From” (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by T. Adeyemi on February 8, 2010

joe-budden-3

Six years ago, Jim Jones was second in command under the Dipset regime. Beanie Sigel was witnessing the death of a dynasty. Joe Budden had just about had it with the industry and its bullshit. And Big Mike was guaranteed to give you a hand full of exclusives on any mixtape he co-signed. That was Hip-Hop in 2004. That very same year, all four names crossed paths. Jones, Beans and Budden handling the raps. Big Mike with the mixtape.

Seeing as how all three men would eventually have choice words towards Jay-Z, it’s ironic they chose the “Where I’m From” instrumental. Read the rest of this entry »

New Video: Dj Kay Slay Feat. Ray J., Maino, & Red Cafe’ – “Thug Luv”

Posted by T. Adeyemi on January 18, 2010

Vodpod videos no longer available.
Here’s Dj Kay Slay’s official music video for his latest offering entitled, “Thug Luv.” The Drama King’s new album called More Than Just a DJ is scheduled to drop February 9th 2010.

Only time will tell if this album will come together like compilation of artists in unison, or like a Shepard’s pie with a little bit of everything just thrown together. One thing is for sure, the album will feature a multitude of New York rappers, with Slay’s prodigy Papoose scheduled to be on several tracks; along with 50 Cent, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, Maino, & Red Cafe’. Surely, Slay is hoping for a much better response from this, his second single since “Blockstar” featuring Busta Rhymes, Yo Gotti (Plies originally), & Jim Jones has not gotten a great response on the radio or in the streets.

Pepsi Smash "Pass Me The Mic"

Posted by T. Adeyemi on June 3, 2009

Since I was up early this morning because my grandfather fried me on some “important” task he needed my young arms & legs for. I figured I’d play catch up on a few things I’ve been neglecting. First task on the list, filter through all the built up emails I’ve allowed to accumulate in my 3 different email accounts. Not to worry people, if you’ve emailed me some new music or suggestions for the site, or anything of substance; chances are I got it. However, chances are if your email says, From: “Tom Jones”…Subject “I’ve Got A Gift for You.” Then yes, your email has become part of the black burnt stuff that gets stuck to the bottom of the pan, that stuff you wish you didn’t have to scrub your knuckles off to clean, but you know eventually someone you has to clean it out.

So anyway as I began the daunting task of lowering my message count from 576 messages to around 180, I noticed a few of Yahoo Music’s new Pepsi Smash videos. Now generally, I wouldn’t completely just swaggerjack another site’s hand-crafted freestyle videos. But since at this point I can’t get the likes of Jadakiss, Raekwon, & Busta Rhymes together for a cipher AND Yahoo was kind enough to provide the embed code, I figured why not.

So here’s the newest Mic Pass video featuring the “Refresh Everything All-Stars.” Or as we know them Busta Bust, The Kiss of Death, Justin’s favorite rapper’s favorite rapper Jay Rock, The Chef, & CAPO.
