Music Review: Vado – Slime Flu

Posted by Oak Jones on October 26, 2010

During the late 1920s through the early 1930s, Harlem, NYC was the mecca of the African-American universe. It was a cultural movement that consisted of an evolution of literature, art and music. So, anyone from that particular suburb of Manhattan knows what it means to be born and raised there. Since then, the musical mecca has shifted to almost every part of the nation at one point or another. In the 1970s a new art form was presented to the national stage, the genre that we have all come to know and love as hip-hop. It was not centered in Harlem specifically, but in the borough of the Bronx… but it was New York City nonetheless. As history shows us, about every 10-15 years, the rap spotlight shifts back to NYC, and in 2010 the man who many consider would be the one to “bring the Big Apple back” is Cam’Ron’s protégé and fellow Harlemite, Vado.

Upon giving the phrase “slime” national acclaim, on October 12, Vado released his highly anticipated Slime Flu project to the masses. Lyrically he isn’t the sharpest rapper to ever do it, but like artist such as Nas, DMX, and 50 Cent (just to name a few…) he brings a refreshing sound to the game, one that we haven’t heard in a few years. Jae Millz – The Flood (Mixtape)

Posted by Oak Jones on March 11, 2010

For a long time, I’ve been a fan of Harlemite (…and proud of it), Jae Millz. His road in the entertainment business prior to being signed to Young Money was filled with many obstacles and setbacks. From becoming an extremely accomplished battle rapper, to being stuck in record label limbo for a few years; its all good to see real talent get their chance in the spotlight. A few months ago we were given a warning; now The Flood is finally here. Millzy’s newest mixtape with YME affiliates DJ Ill Will x DJ Rockstar features 15 bangers, and is definitely a good listen. Here’s a overview of the tracklist, as well as a dowload link to the mixtape itself. Check it out…

Jae Millz “First 48” Video

Posted by T. Adeyemi on March 7, 2010

Vodpod videos no longer available.

One half of the New York imports of Young Money, Jae Millz goes in (like always) on this prequel to his soon to come mixtape The Flood. As hot as this track is it doesn’t seem to change things about Millz in the minds of his fans. Basically, its always been known since his days battling on the streets of NY that he was a supreme spitta. And this video certainly adds more weight to that statement.

However, with this link up with Young Money many (including me) thought this deal would give him the  exposure he needed to elevate from the mixtape game. To a certain extent it has seeing as how “Bedrock” plays 5 times during my 15 minute ride to work everyday. (That’s why I stopped listening to the radio.) Anyway, I won’t judge his growth any further because the man can spit with the best of them. And if this impending mixtape is anything like the last, the streets won’t be complaining either. LEGO!

Jae Millz – The Virgo: He Nasty

Posted by Mr. Put On on October 6, 2009

Jae Millz– what can I say? Dude rips it up every time he gets on a track. I’ve been a Millz fan since I googled him and watched his Murda Mook battles after he battled E-Ness on Making the Band (yeah, I wasn’t Mr. Put On back then, I was late on Millz). These are two of the lines I remember vividly from that memorable evening Taped in Diddy’s House: Read the rest of this entry »

Nicki Minaj – It’s Barbie B*tch

Posted by Mr. Put On on October 5, 2009

So in the haste that has been Blake Kelly’s Higher Education all other mixtape projects were forgotten. My apologies, but Higher Education is really something special. Before I drone on about Blake, let me go ahead and introduce ‘yall’ to Nicki Minaj’s latest release It’s Barbie B*tch where the asterisk should clearly be replaced with an ‘i’. Since the rise of the Minaj, we’ve seen Harajuku Barbie impostors everywhere. Nicki Minaj is definitely running the female rap game, took Lil’ Kim’s spot for sure and is running with the wind at her back. Keeping the Young Money scales well balanced, she’s definitely holding her own against the likes of Drake and Jae Millz. Well check out Nicki’s latest approved, but Unofficial mixtape.

Real Hip Hop – A Slaughterhouse Fresstyle Burial

Posted by T. Adeyemi on June 19, 2009

Okay, so I may be a few days late on making this post (only in internet blog terms.) But I’ve always admittedly been a fiend for freestyles. And for that reason alone I decided to ignore what the calendar says because hot bars Tuesday is STILL hot bars on Friday.

Everyone who knows anything about the evolution of the freestyle game in Hip Hop knows that Dj Green Latern and his OnDaSpot Freestyles have gracefully taken the place of those Smack DVD street freestyle battles. The release date of Smack DVD’s only a short time ago used to be as anticipated as any artists LP. The street series also birthed the “careers” of hood legends such as Jae Millz, Murda Mook, & Serius Jones.

Well, these next four gentlemen have had much more success in their own ways then the list named before. Slaughterhouse, who I’ve admitted in the past was not my favorite rap group comes through during their interview on Invasion radio with some serious bars. Here’s just a sample of what to expect when you click play:

Joe Budden “It’s magic! You Skip, I’m Jameer my spot’s reserved/Your spot is a reserve!

Royce 5’9′ “Chowder time, ya’ll right I sprinkle powder lines/ If Kelly beat his case, my lawyer gonna swallow mines.”

Joell Ortiz “This music’s a novel, you still on page 10/I read it, rewrote it, & published it, called it A-Men!”

Crooked I “My six cruise on big shoes, Imma lit fuse/ Wit sick views I got issues, I’m misused.”

Posted by J. Tinsley on May 3, 2009

If you can’t get enough of the song, like myself, now you can sport the official tee designed by Tha Bizness themselves. Probably not the best shirt to wear if you happen to be in a relationship.

Go ahead and cop a few for yourself and your friends by clicking here.

Shout to Karen Civil for the heads up.

Young Money's "Every Girl" Performace @ MTV's Spring Break

Posted by J. Tinsley on March 24, 2009

If I would have had a spring break, this song would have been in constant rotation the entire week.  But since I didn’t, I’m forced to only live through videos like this.

I downloaded this song on January 30, and it’s been in constant rotation ever since. Don’t give me that “it’s not lyrical” nonsense, I don’t want to hear it.

However, I am upset Mack Maine didn’t get to perform his verse seeing as it’s entertaining as all hell. The Molly Cirus line gets me everytime.

Every Girl x Thank You x New Orleans Maniac – Lil Wayne x Young Money

Posted by Mr. Put On on January 30, 2009

THIS IS MAJOR ! The martian and his team of Young Money all stars come through with some really major heat to make my Thursday as a whole a great day for my music head self. So much heat has been unleashed today from all directions, Every Girl which features Drizzy Drake Rodgers, Jae Millz, Gudda Gudda & Mack Maine and I must say this is my overall favorite way better then anything these dudes did on Dedication 3 as far as bars go. Thank You features Jae Millz & Mack Maine is Young Money’s version of what I call an acceptance speech, which in reality was replaced with some real ill bars. New Orleans w/ Gudda Gudda has the martian so why he can do rock for a while and STILL be on the top of many people’s list. SIDEBAR: I have a feeling these won’t the last of the Young Money all stars before the weekend ends, so be on the look out!

“I would fuck all of y’all, all of y’all are beautiful/ I could never pick one so u can never say I’m choosey hoe”

– Drake (c) Every Girl

“Future billionaire, I gotta be on the list/ Got a runway in my pants cause all the models be on my dick/ Young Money, Young Money, swallow that shit bitch/ Santa Claus killer with a holiday shit list”

– Weezy (c) Thank You

Click the jump for the tracks..

Lil Wayne feat. Young Money–Trouble Maker

Posted by J. Tinsley on January 28, 2009

“This ain’t nursery, this is brain surgery/ Ski mask on my bullets let ’em commit brain burglary/ E-mergency, it’s an emergency/ Someone in all black left the whole scene burgandy…”–Lil Wayne

Yeah, this another one of those tracks I was mentioning earlier.  Sorry for the late post, but I’m just getting home, you know how that goes.  Also, found out I don’t have to go to my other job today seeing as how the retail industry has been all but dead since Santa left town.  Anyway, some brad new Weezy…which might go down as the most redundant statement of the decade.  It’s about time people really start realizing, when it’s all said and done, this guy alien is going to go down as one of the greatest to ever do it.  Did I offend anyone with that? If so, you probably know I’m right and just don’t want to admit it.

Shout to Splash for this one…

Duke/Wake Forest…t-minus five hours…
