Smokin’ Dro Week 8 – “Ric Flair”

Posted by J. Tinsley on October 28, 2010

Do you know what today is? It’s “Smokin’ Dro’s” eight week anniversary. Pending my first grade math is still sharp, eight weeks equates to two months which means a long-term relationship for those with a fear of commitment. As with any bond, however, arguments will happen. So what better way to tie it in than with one of Hip-Hop’s most unique wordsmiths and a song titled after one of sports and entertainment’s most iconic sh!t talkers. WOOOOO!

Song: “Ric Flair”

Smokin’ Dro: Week 1 – “They Don’t Really Know About Dro”

Posted by J. Tinsley on August 30, 2010

“The revolution has always been in the hands of the young. The young always inherit the revolution.” – Huey Newton

A few weeks ago I informed you the Young Dro revolution was upon us. Well, today marks the official birth. What we have here is a new series I have effectively dubbed “Smokin’ Dro.” It may not seem like it, but the man with more adjectives than an AP grammar class has only one album to claim to his Grand Hustle portfolio (two if you include 2001′s independent I Got That Dro). At some point though, we will all be blessed with his long-awaited sophomore LP P.O.L.O. Until then, I’ll highlight a random Dro record every week really for no other reason than my appreciation for his music. Will it get the album out any quicker? Most likely, it probably won’t. But really, could it hurt? Read the rest of this entry »

Pill feat. Young Dro, Rocko & AllStar – “Dope Boys”

Posted by J. Tinsley on August 10, 2010

Someone needs to get someone at Grand Hustle on the horn and get this Young Dro project moving. It’s been a minute since I heard new music from a guy who was once considered Pau Gasol to T.I.’s Kobe. Nowadays it’s all about B.o.B. – an artist I’m a fan of (dropped purchase-worthy debut LP), but a totally different artist from Dro.

Turns out the next place I’ll turn to hear some new material from the Polo Don is Southern Slang 16. On the tape is a Pill record entitled “Dope Boys’” featuring the likes of All-Star (who also produces the track), Rocko and Dro. Off first few listens, the only thing I’m not a huge fan of the hook, but the verses make up for that. Well, Pill’s verse was dope and one that shows how life is changing (yet, staying the same) for the Pink City native. However, it’s a reason I’ve focused on Dro this much so far. T.I. Disrespects The Mixtape Game

Posted by J. Tinsley on May 27, 2010

…by dropping his most anticipated mixtape since 2004’s Down With The King. Appropriately dubbed F#ck A Mixtape, the highly anticipated reunion with DJ Drama and DJ MLK chronicles the road to reclaiming the throne he forfeited last year.

To the majority of listeners, this tape was a pleasant surprise. To hardcore T.I. fans, however, this tape has been anticipated ever since he was found attempting to purchase firearms in that Atlanta parking lot in October of 2007.

Listen to all of Tip’s albums and the one thing he has managed to successfully re-appear time and time again is the authenticity of his story. Read the rest of this entry »

T.I. – “I’m Back” Video (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by T. Adeyemi on April 27, 2010

One of the questions that plagues me everyday is when Tip’s F*ck A Mixtape will hit a Mediafire link. Hopefully some time in May, but, like everyone else, I have no choice but to wait until that day becomes a reality. In preparation for that and his King Uncaged album (August 17), Cliff’s first visual since assimilating himself with “real life.”

Still no clue as to who he’s referring to when he says, “I’m disappointed in you dog, you ain’t hold me down at all…” Knowing T.I., we’ll likely never know who it was meant for anyway. Since we’re on the topic of T.I., DJ Drama and a mixtape, let this marinate: Karen Civil called this mixtape all the way back in January. It’s probably not a major accomplishment in most eyes, but even Dram recognizes the gangsta Miss Cleo abilities. Read the rest of this entry »

“Down With The King Pt. 2?” (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by T. Adeyemi on January 29, 2010

By now, it’s already been let out the bag T.I. has been in the studio recording new music since his release to a halfway house in Atlanta. With the that in mind, the anticipation to hear that music is often comes in the form of one question? What will he talk about now that he’s out? The question is only going to increase in frequency as Tip nears a full release date. The official LP will more than likely surface during the latter part of this year. However, since the public’s hunger for music is where it’s at, an official mixtape wouldn’t be a bad idea. A Gangsta Grillz sounds even better.

The King’s Back

Posted by Oak Jones on December 22, 2009

“The Kiiiinnnngggg’s Back!!!” – Swizz Beatz

Well ladies and gentleman, according to new reports, a publicist for Grand Hustle confirmed that Clifford ‘Tip’ Harris has been released from prison. BET stated that he was released from Arkansas Forrest City prison earlier today, and is in Atlanta in a halfway house set to serve the remainder of his prison sentence.

It’s ironic that early this morning I found myself riding to work bumping T.I.’s most cohesive album, Trap Muzik. This album was a testament to every young black male growing up below the Mason-Dixon line. The struggle of everyday life, mixed with the temptation of the streets can cause many of our youth to be pulled into the “Trap”. Trap Muzik has served to be not only classic with southern listeners; but for fans of hip-hop music alike. Now that Tip is out of prison, many of his fans will have many more classic albums to look forward to. Good luck pimp’n…

…Oh yeah, peep “Doin’ My Job” on Trap Muzik if you haven’t already heard.

“The future is full of uncertainty…”

Posted by Oak Jones on December 14, 2009

On February 14, 1995, Tupac Amaru Shakur was sentenced to 1-4 ½ years in a federal penitentiary. About a month later, he released his multi-platinum Me Against The World. Shakur is the only artist ever to have an album at number one on the Billboard 200 while serving a prison sentence. Since then, Read the rest of this entry »

"The Funniest Man On Twitter…"

Posted by J. Tinsley on June 29, 2009

If it does nothing else, Twitter is most certainly an entertainment escape while at work or bored at home. The social networking phenomena is likely responsible for 65% of employee activity and is seemingly making FaceBook appear as if it is heading for the same fate as the once powerful, MySpace.

To jump straight to the point, one of the most entertaining users of Twitter is the comedian, Lil’ Duval. Far from stand up or his days mimicking Shawty Lo, Duval’s comedic genius meshes well with the instanteanous mutating site. After the jump, you will find a slew of updates from the Grand Hustle comedian on a wide range of topics.

Prepare to laugh.

B.o.B vs. BOBBY RAY (MIXTAPE)

Posted by J. Tinsley on June 22, 2009

This is what I’m talking about. None of that waiting the entire day for the tape to drop, Don Cannon and DJ Green Lantern must pride themselves on being punctual seeing how this was liberated at the crack of dawn. Pay attention Grand Hustle, this is your best shot at mainstream success while Cliff is gone. Obviously I say that with no disrespect to any other artist on under contract, but when Eminem cosigns you, chances are you’re doing something right. This is just what I needed as I get ready to embark on brief job hunt, however (yes, I need MORE work haha).

Before I quit the yapping, my excitement to see “I’m That N*gga” included on this release is about to erupt through the roof. That is easily one of my favorite songs from last year. Enough talking, hit the jump for the tracklist and link.
