“Ready For Tipoff” – Interview With Def Jam’s Khalil

Posted by J. Tinsley on October 26, 2010

Signed to the house Russell and Rick built, Def Jam’s newest talent Khalil is poised to deliver on the investment. His debut album Hot Like Summer, which is set to drop in early 2011 has already attracted the lines of Rico Love and Jim Jonsin while securing features from everyone like Young Money’s Lil Twist to the head Diplomat himself, Cam’ron.

While sitting in the office making changes to his office website, the 15-year-old West Coast born (California) and East Coast bred (North Carolina) singer opened up about how he became close friends with Diggy Simmons and Lil Twist, the recent “younger artist boom,” the one record he cannot wait for people to hear and if he could beat Cam’ron in basketball one-one-one. Diggy Simmons – What They Been Waiting For

Posted by Mr. Put On on May 18, 2010

Vodpod videos no longer available.

So the young prodigy known as Diggy Simmons is definitely beginning to warm up. Since March, Diggy has been hard at work, getting all things in order from the beginning, to have a successful career. From what I’ve seen, the team around him is gearing him up to stand toe to toe with the likes of Justin Bieber.

Although this video doesn’t say much lyrically, it showcases Diggy in a manner that makes you understand that this kid is for real. Its a prelude for sure– a teaser of sorts. It embeds an image in your hand, prepares you to open your eyes to what’s coming up next.

I’m excited to see what’s in story from the Young Simmons I can be certain that it’s going to be nothing short of phenomenal.

Diggy Interview x Freestyle on 106 & Park

Posted by T. Adeyemi on March 31, 2010

My second favorite Simmons (after Vanessa of course) Goes IN, well underage style on 106 & Park last night. The boy is definitely going to make some noise, evidenced by his growing following internet wide and the over 100,000 downloads that he mentions during the interview.

The only advice I have for young Diggy is make sure you do at LEAST one track with Justin Bieber. The two of these young heart-throbs on the same song is a guaranteed goldmine. And if you don’t know who Bieber is, first of all you should feel foolish. Secondly, head on over to WeKnowTheDJ.com and check out my boy aka Justin’s Official Dj, DJ Tay James.

Diggy Simmons: Hip Hop’s Youngest Old Soul (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by T. Adeyemi on March 23, 2010

Aside from the Jacksons, there aren’t many families in music who have had more of an impact on pop culture than the Simmons clan. Russell is one of the founders of Def Jam, a timeless and storied institution in music industry history. His brother, Joseph (known to the world asRev. Run), is a member of iconic trio, Run DMC, and the inspiration behind the hit television show “Run’s House.” Seemingly next up to bat is Run’s son and Russell’s nephew, Diggy. Since releasing his debut mixtape, The First Flight, last November, the praises and accolades have been coming hand over fist.

We recently had the chance to chop it up with the MC/fashion-fiend where he spoke candidly on a handful of topics such: the show’s impact on his music career, the negative comments regarding his older brother JoJo, his feelings towards Lil Twist and Bow Wow, the stigma about “child rappers” and what he personally feels he needs to improve on. Diggy Simmons – “Music Sets Me Free”

Posted by T. Adeyemi on January 19, 2010

It seems that the middle brother of Rev. Run’s home congregation may have taken heed to his teachings the most. Daniel “Diggy” Simmons, the fashion designer, rapper, and young mogul in the making has been dropping bars on a regular basis for a few months now. Compared to his older brother JoJo’s efforts, Diggy’s style gives off a smoother, more natural vibe.

Don’t worry, no one is crowning Diggy as the next Mos Def or Black Thought, but his lyrics do reflect his awareness to the world around him. And now Diggy has released his latest track called, “Set Me Free,” produced by Snake Eyes; that gives off the feel of a younger J. Cole. Coincidently enough, Diggy rated J. Cole’s “The Warm Up” mixtape as his favorite of 2009.

Yes, I know I am stretching somewhat in comparing Diggy to J. Cole, who has shown great potential. But in today’s society comparison to other’s in terms of potential is what gets an artists singed, an athlete drafted, and a producer a deal. (See Raiders drafting JaMarcus Russell for an example of when potential is overrated.) Either way check out the young Jet Setter (His title, not mine), with his latest offering, and download his mixtape “The First Flight” if you like what you hear.
