Blake Kelly Prepares for Takeoff

Posted by T. Adeyemi on November 3, 2010

Progression in any craft has always been something to appreciate. In a society of here today, gone tomorrow phenoms its rare for someone to have a sustained gravity. For Blake Kelly it seems he’s progressed from the schoolyard cyphers at Hampton University to hosting college parties and then on to nationwide tours. And now he’s poised to challenge gravity with his latest compilation.

Plane Mode the mixtape is the long overdue follow-up to the Rockstar general’s initial mixtape, Higher Education.  This sophomore mixtape is sure to include a lot of bravado, plenty of love for the opposite sex, and undoubtedly enough weed smoke to catch a contact. Kelly’s steady and deliberate delivery provide potency for the words he speaks. His style similar to his lifestyle has over went some change, in this case change is good when it comes to providing the streets with quality music. Read the rest of this entry »

LeBron & Nike’s Plea for Help

Posted by T. Adeyemi on October 26, 2010

"The Decision" of a Career

“The Decision” of a Career

One commodity that hasn’t seen any kind of shortage since “The Recession” started has been opinions. Everyone still has their originals about everything pre-Recession, and more than likely have added plenty to the list since then. When it comes to the NBA it’s no different. Although it seems this season many more non-basketball fans have had their opinions in regards to one LeBron James and his infamous Decision. Well guess what, LeBron apparently heard them all and he has a little something to say about it. Posted by Mr. Put On on October 18, 2010

Well there’s not much to be said here, Lloyd has been annihilating every instrumental compilation he “lays” his vocals down on (pun intended). Having a December 2010 expected release of his next album King of Hearts Lloyd is already set to produce a spectacular album. With a number of other tracks such as Get It In ft. 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks’ Any Girl sporting Young Goldie’s and looming today’s music waves on permanent cycle. Well here’s the new visual so you can check out his fresh cut as well.

Freeway – ‘Escalators’ (Artwork) x ‘Beautiful Music’ (Video)

Posted by Mr. Put On on October 18, 2010

Philadelphia’s Freeway is definitely back to work. His previous compilation Stimulus Package didn’t get too much of a push, but nonetheless it was still a quality album once I put it in for a spin. With features from artists such as Raekwon, Birdman, Bun B., and the Philly Phamilia Omillio Sparks, Beanie Siegel, and Young Chris the album was definitely worth the listen and you on that “Phila Music”!

Now Freeway is working on his new album which should definitely be getting the attention it deserves. We all know and enjoy Freeway’s music; time and time again his classics bring us back to some memory and he delivers us that feeling. You know the feeling I’m talkin about, Read the rest of this entry »

With the emergence of Justin Bieber’s new book this past month and the announcement of his movie set to debut in theaters on February 11th 2011, there seems to be no slowing down for this kid. He is currently embarking on the second leg of his ‘My World’ tour which is set to be even better than the first. (So if you haven’t gotten your tickets yet because you went to the first leg, I suggest you rethink it and hit the box office ASAP.) Read the rest of this entry »

Music Video: KiD Cudi Feat. Kanye & McLovin – “Erase Me”

Posted by T. Adeyemi on October 12, 2010

Jimmy Hendrix reincarnated seems to be the angle KiD Cudi was going for when he created the visual for “Erase Me.” For a song that sounds reminiscent of a previous era with the heavy guitar strings and steady bass line. The video helps to put the listener/viewer in the right mood. Everything from the sparkle drums, to the big hair so eloquently transpose the 60’s onto today’s generation.

Christopher Mintz-Plass aka McLovin’s appearance only helps to add that strangely cool feel to this video. The Miami Vicesque grainy picture adds to the ambiance. Read the rest of this entry »

Music Video: Wiz Khalifa – “Black And Yellow”

Posted by T. Adeyemi on October 11, 2010

“Reppin my Town, when you see me you know everything, Black & Yellow…”

Pittsburgh, PA’s own Wiz Khalifa released his latest video over weekend, in which he displays the different facets of his town. Pittsburgh’s steel mill tough mentality have always been front and center. Whether you’re talking about they’re notoriously supportive but gritty Steelers fans or the middle-class blue-collar workers that make up the core of P-Town they have never lacked toughness.

Khalifa’s rise to prominence exemplifies the mindset of his hometown. By taking the independent route he took a working man’s approach to establishing a fan base. Now with the release of his debut album on Atlantic Records steadily approaching in early 2011, Khalifa hasn’t lost his grassroots feel. Read the rest of this entry »

When Trevor Battled Shawn…

Posted by J. Tinsley on October 8, 2010

I love Hip-Hop folklore.

Then again, I’m just a sucker for a good story, regardless of the topic. To this day, my grandmother will tell me stories of what life was like in the Great Depression and the Civil Rights Movement. And each time I still find myself in amazement. It’s the same way with music and probably explains the reason why I watch that damn Jackson movie every time it comes on VH1. With that in mind, Hip-Hop has more than its fair share of back stories. The Welcome To Death Row DVD has tons of them if you find yourself interested. However, one of the dopest involves Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z and the George Westinghouse Technical & Vocational High School cafeteria.

I’ve known for years now these two and Biggie all attended school at the Read the rest of this entry »
