The NBA’s Most Influential Missed Opportunities

Posted by J. Tinsley on October 29, 2010

Positive or negative, nothing about the past can be altered.

That’s what’s peculiar about nostalgia. Regardless of what happens, the question of the unknown always lingers. Rarely does this happen anywhere more often than with sports. In an environment that thrives on the never-ending wheeling and dealings of trades, releases and free agency, complacency will never assume itself as characteristic familiar with those who call themselves “fans.” The NBA is a league which creates dynasties as quickly as it destroys them, so the mere impact of one decision can effectively make or break a franchise.

But what about the aborted decisions? À la Pau Gasol to Cleveland in early ’07 or Durant to Portland #1 overall. The ones which never spawned into reality, and the ones that don’t even seem reasonable given the way the following sequence of events played out. Over the past twenty years, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant have arguably been the sport’s most competitive forces. They have combined for 11 championships, six regular season MVP’s, eight Finals MVP’s, 26 All Star Game appearances and countless number of game winners. Yeah, for the most part, history has treated the two favorably.

Basking in their glory is fine, but wondering “what if?” is even better. Jadakiss even made a song about it. You see, His Airness – through the unintentional influence of Scottie Pippen – and The Mamba were involved in quite possibly the two greatest missed opportunities in NBA recent memory. Posted by J. Tinsley on October 26, 2010

Signed to the house Russell and Rick built, Def Jam’s newest talent Khalil is poised to deliver on the investment. His debut album Hot Like Summer, which is set to drop in early 2011 has already attracted the lines of Rico Love and Jim Jonsin while securing features from everyone like Young Money’s Lil Twist to the head Diplomat himself, Cam’ron.

While sitting in the office making changes to his office website, the 15-year-old West Coast born (California) and East Coast bred (North Carolina) singer opened up about how he became close friends with Diggy Simmons and Lil Twist, the recent “younger artist boom,” the one record he cannot wait for people to hear and if he could beat Cam’ron in basketball one-one-one. Smokin’ Dro Week 4 – “You Know What It Is”

Posted by J. Tinsley on September 27, 2010

The tape with Greg Street was enough Dro for one week. Now we’re back like a nagging ex, so put the USPA down for a moment. Leaving the A, this week we head up North to reminisce when Dro broke bread with the man who has more facts than Chuck Norris.

Smokin’ Dro: Week 1 – “They Don’t Really Know About Dro”

Posted by J. Tinsley on August 30, 2010

“The revolution has always been in the hands of the young. The young always inherit the revolution.” – Huey Newton

A few weeks ago I informed you the Young Dro revolution was upon us. Well, today marks the official birth. What we have here is a new series I have effectively dubbed “Smokin’ Dro.” It may not seem like it, but the man with more adjectives than an AP grammar class has only one album to claim to his Grand Hustle portfolio (two if you include 2001′s independent I Got That Dro). At some point though, we will all be blessed with his long-awaited sophomore LP P.O.L.O. Until then, I’ll highlight a random Dro record every week really for no other reason than my appreciation for his music. Will it get the album out any quicker? Most likely, it probably won’t. But really, could it hurt? Read the rest of this entry »

Karen Tysin – August Featured Model

Posted by Ebony on August 9, 2010

Summer is coming close to an end, and the weather can’t seem to present us with a steady forecast. One minute its scattered showers and the next, we’re getting blinded by the white-hot sun. But even with the occasional thunder storms; one thing for sure is that the heat keeps coming. Just like the weather, our featured model selection  remains unpredictable, yet increasingly hot. These are the type of women that’ll have you coming back for more. If it were any other way, it just wouldn’t be Grade A.

Karen Tysin, our featured Model for the month of August, has a look that is absolutely stunning. Her exotic sex appeal is quite obvious when viewing her photos. Not so obvious is the journey that Karen has paved for her self by persevering through hard times. From overcoming scams; a known hoax of the modeling industry, to successfully dealing with consequences of mistakes that were made out of young age. We all remember what it is like to be young and know how vital it is to our growth to learn from those most impressionable years. Karen has demonstrated what it means to be undefeated by a battle that would typically kill the drive of an aspiring model. Read the rest of this entry »

(Review) Big Boi – Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty

Posted by Okla Jones on July 15, 2010

It’s crazy, because 1994 truly seems like a lifetime ago. The genre of hip-hop was entering a new age; a period of enlightenment so to speak. Up north, the city of New York produced arguably the greatest group and lyricist ever (The Wu-Tang Clan and NaS, respectively..) in the same year. The Westcoast was at the top of the rap game; with Death Row ushering in artists like 2Pac, Snoop and Dre who stand tall in the genre, even to this day. The South however, was still the forgetten region. An area of the United States the held a plethora of talent, but with no vehicle in order to let it’s voice be heard. At the time, the Houston-based Rap-A-Lot imprint was at the forefront of southern hip-hop, but little did the nation know it would be Atlanta that would step into the spotlight for years to come. “The Rose That Grew From Concrete…”

Posted by Okla Jones on June 16, 2010

June 16, 1971, marked the date that Afeni Shakur gave birth behind bars, as a political prisoner during the turbulent times of the 60s and 70s in the United States. That day would prove to be the day that a modern-day prophet entered the world. Today would mark the 39th birthday of arguably the greatest rapper of all-time, and the undeniable voice of an entire generation. A man whose name will forever be etched in not only music history, but in American history. The things that Tupac Amaru Shakur accomplished in an extremely short period were feats that would take a many men several lifetimes. June 16 should not just be a celebration of the artist, but a celebration of the man himself… the revolutionary, the son, and the friend. Read the rest of this entry »

ABC’s Martin Bashir Interviews Diddy on “Being Diddy”

Posted by T. Adeyemi on June 15, 2010

The man, the legend, and certainly far  from a myth, Diddy has become the ultimate sense of what a mogul is over his some twenty odd year career. I for a long time have proclaimed to my friends & colleagues that NO ONE is as influential as Diddy. Yes, I said it. And for the record I do not mean just in the sense of Hip Hop culture. Diddy’s journey from Uptown Records intern to a man who owns a piece of almost everything when it comes to living a Hip Hop lifestyle has been nothing short of remarkable. Now, I’m not going to comb through his bio just to reinforce all the milestones and accolades that Diddy has achieved, there’s Wikipedia for that. Instead, I just encourage you to realize three things about Mr. Sean Combs. Read the rest of this entry »
