Waka Flocka Feat. Gucci Mane – “Hard In The Paint (Remix)” (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by T. Adeyemi on June 23, 2010

And here I was thinking “crunk music” was toe-tagged forever. In 2010, it may not have the nationwide appeal as it did during the glory days of Three 6 Mafia or Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz, but Waka Flocka is definitely doing his part to resuscitate the style. Honestly, I’ve never even listened to a full length project from Waka. It doesn’t take a Ph.D in music history to see big dog has created a lane for himself though. Albeit a controversial one. If you’re easily influenced by lyrics, you probably shouldn’t be listening in the first place.

Give him a hard hitting instrumental and fitting hook and that’s about all it takes to create a Flocka record. Take his underground anthem, “Hard In The Paint,” for example. A few weeks ago I was out and about in the town and this record happen to come on. Prior to that, the venue had a nice environment around it with good music, good drinks and even better females. This song comes on and I swear it was as if goons appeared from out the walls to congregate in the middle. I live in DC too, so dreads were swinging like nobody’s business. Then the song went off and they disappeared just as quickly as they came. Weird stuff, really.

Recycle-reuse-redistribute. That’s exactly what they’re doing by putting Mr. Zone 6 on the remix. Like it or not.
