Bruno Mars Channels His Inner Robin Thicke – “Our First Time”

Posted by T. Adeyemi on May 1, 2010

There’s certain forms of music that just seem to provoke the right emotion. I have long been a promoter of R&B over Hip Hop (I guess I’m content bias), however Hawaiian product Bruno Mars seems to be one of those artist that has been able to make the transition seamlessly. After co-starring in the number one song in the country, B.O.B.’s “Nothing On You,” Mars is ready to play the main role in his own soundtrack.

WIth “Our First Time” Mars is providing a sneak peek into his vision of the perfect first night. In what seems like a perfectly accented falsetto Mars orchestrates a night of ecstasy and intrigue. My only gripe is that the song channels a little too much of Robin Thicke’s style as Mars reaches the climax of the track. Irregardless, Mars seems poised to capitalize on his recent success after mainly being known for his songwriting credits for the likes of Brandy and Maroon 5. So without further adieu make sure you pick up his EP It’s Better If You Don’t Understand on May 11th.

I just listened to “Our First Time,” and what led me to this site, and this post specifically, is that I was thinking Bruno Mars sounded exactly like Robin Thicke. You hit the nail on the head!
