Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” Video Brings Back Her Original Swag

Posted by T. Adeyemi on February 11, 2010

Seemingly, Rih Rih got the message that people were not to fond of her hardcore/depressive/darkside image that she had been portraying of late. With songs like “Russian Roulette” and “Hard” she portrayed a warrior woman image unlike the energetic and colorful demeanor she began her career with. At this point the scuffle with Chris Breezy is beginning to fade to black (Yes another Hova reference), and both parties are moving forward with their respective careers. So the question is, why was Rihanna still trapping herself in such a dark & depressive state?

Can’t answer that question. But fortunately enough for all of her fans Rihanna decided to stray away from that mode at least momentarily. Her new “Rude Boy” video displays the same color combinations and sexy dance stripper moves of the songs that initially brought her fame like, “S.O.S.” Although, she has toned down her techno influenced production she is still certainly dance floor eligible.

The skin-tight outfits, especially the gold catsuit register much better than her all black Harley Davidson look for this video. Plus, the outfits help to reinforce the Caribbean dance-hall feel. This video represents an axis point where Rihanna should never stray too far away from. Videos like this showcase her roots. Now where’s the 3D glasses and a glass of Jamaican Rum? Press Play, then you’ll understand.

Sidenote: Rihanna’s Rated R album is gaining late momentum, having already been certified Platinum in 5 different countries.
