Lil Wayne Speaks On Haiti & New Orleans (by J. Tinsley)

Posted by T. Adeyemi on February 5, 2010

As you may or may not know, there will soon be an updated version to the 1985 legendary hit record, “We Are The World.” Lil Wayne is one of the artists who will be featured on the remake. No stranger to natural disaster in his own city of New Orleans, Weezy had this to say regarding the aid given to the ravaged country of Haiti.

“I think it’s amazing what’s been done for Haiti,” Wayne said, gazing out at the assembled reporters and cameramen in a tent just outside the Jim Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood as he stepped off a stool and lowered the microphone. Then, raising the mic to his iced-out grill once more, he added, “But I also think it’s amazing what hasn’t been done for New Orleans.”

Interesting take. I knew from the moment news of the destruction in Haiti hit the news that Katrina comparisons would soon follow. I also knew Obama would have aid to the Caribbean country almost immediately because of the horrible PR that was the government’s reaction to Katrina. It’s one of the questions which will likely never be answered. He was right though. The horror stories I still hear coming from New Orleans are enough to make any person tear up.
