Haiti Relief: Wyclef Jean Feat. Mavado – “Hold On” (Haiti Tribute)

Posted by T. Adeyemi on January 25, 2010

Last Friday, the “Hope for Haiti” telethon aired on every major network to raise money for relief efforts. The event which was organized by actor George Clooney was tremendously successful raising upwards of 57 million dollars. The money and effort that will be needed to completely rebuild the homes and businesses of the people of Haiti is still uncertain at this point.

From the moment the earthquake struck near Port-Au-Prince, Haiti’s native son Wyclef Jean has stood as the ambassador for all the people that were affected. Especially, those whose voice could not be heard. Wyclef has shown this to be his shining moment, surpassing all of the accolades he has received as an artist. With this video featuring Mavado, ‘Clef has found a perfect way to use his gift for what could be described as its greatest purpose.

As the title of the track reads, people of Haiti just need to “Hold On” because help is on the way. Perhaps, Rhianna sang it best when she sang, “Not gonna leave you stranded…” on the hook to the song she along with Bono of U2 & Jay-Z debuted during the telethon.

If you were moved by the telecast and the performances that took place; then download the entire telecast from iTunes.com/Haiti for $1.99. Also, all artists that performed that night have put together an album of the songs for distribution. The album can be purchased for $7.99 from iTunes. All proceeds from the telethon and its extensions will be donated to the charities involved with the “Hope for Haiti Now” network. Give a little, give what you can, give because you wouldn’t want to be left stranded.
