Just Blaze Reminisces On Baseline Studios (by J. Tinsley)

Vodpod videos no longer available.

I’ve never stepped inside the doors of Baseline Studios, but I’ve always heard and respected the magic which surfaced from there. Stories of all-night recording sessions and artist/producer interactions are the norm at any studio, but Baseline was special. Especially to legendary producer, Just Blaze. For the past couple of weeks, Just has been cleaning crates at the studio (which closes permanently at the end of this month) and liberating exclusive, never before heard material.

Honestly, this studio meant a lot to Blaze and everyone who ever walked through the doors. As a person who has never had any talent rapping, singing or producing, I’ve always wanted to sit in on studio sessions to take in the atmosphere when something legendary is being recorded. One of these days I’ll get around to it, I guess. LTD Magazine recently caught up with Justin Smith to speak about his lasting memories of Baseline, his latest endeavors and why many studios have since ceased operation because of the ever-evolving recording technology.

Speaking of technology, it’s a gift and a curse. It allows you to get work done quicker. True. It also prohibits an artist and producer from utilizing each others in-studio abilities. But that’s an entirely different post altogether.
