A Golden Night for Mo’Nique

Posted by T. Adeyemi on January 18, 2010

Oh What a night, a Precious night indeed. Last evening marked the running of the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards.  On the eve of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s. birthday, it seemed almost fitting that African-Americans were able to share in another small triumph. Mo’Nique truly seemed grateful when they called her name as the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Performance in a Motion Picture by an actress was announced.

Mo’Nique who played Mary Jones, Precious’s unemployed and mentally, physically, & sexually abusive mother thanked all of her cast mates. Mo’Nique also gave a very specific and moving statement when she said, “I celebrate this award with all of the Precious’s, with all of the Mary’s. I celebrate this award with everyone that has ever been touched. It’s now time to tell, and it’s okay.” By far, Mo’Nique’s most poignant moment of her acceptance speech.

And as the tagline states, “Life is hard. Life is short. Life is painful. Life is rich. Life is….Precious,” Indeed it is, so cherish every moment. Now click on the video and share in Mo’Nique’s moment one more time.

Be Real, Be True, Keep it 100.
