Flyy Academy – That’s How I Rock

Posted by Mr. Put On on October 8, 2009

Enter Davy P from stage left, down stage. Enter DJ from stage right, down stage. For those of us who aren’t familiar with Broadway, acting, and stage directions, let me make this scene more vivid. As MTV has just shown us, this scene is filled with the likes of Raekwon, 50 Cent, Fabolous, Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane, Rick Ross, Kanye West, Drake, Lil Wayne and Jay-Z. These ten rappers I just named, are the leading roles in this picture I paint you. They are the ones with the full 16’s, the hooks that have the audience lip syncing along word for word.

That is the foreground. In the background we have numerous artists who through out this scene find their ways to the light, to center stage, only to be taken back by one of those 10. Occasionally some “backgrounders” such as Soulja Boy, J. Cole, Kid Cudi, and even the New Boyz get an extended solo, or a well applauded duet segment. Then back they go.

Flyy Academy, a young duo fresh out of the ATL have just stepped onto the scene, and are making their way to catch some of those bright lights up on the front. Though they are not yet fully recognized, they’re lingering in the background, acting as extras. Soon enough, they’ll make their way out from where they are.

Fueled by a love for hip hop and its culture from a young age, these two dudes are no strangers to the pen and the pad or the beat machine. Since middle school, these guys have been tabulating their “books of rhymes”– asserting themselves, and improving the craft. With their persistence and love for the music, it’s almost certain that you’ll hear a lot more from them. Check out their track “That’s How I Rock” and you’ll see that they’re pretty much here to stay; no stage exits any time soon.

Also, they’re looking to take 1 lucky fan with them to the BET Hip Hop Awards. You don’t want to miss out on this contest. Check them out on YouTube as well and make sure you comment on the track too.
