If there has ever been at least one sporting event I’ve wanted to attend, it’s the World Cup. I’m not even a huge soccer fan either. However, the energy and passion for the game that each person has in the stands is enough to make me want to chant “O-LAY” every time a goal is scored. In the past, I’ve been criticized for not supporting the American soccer team, but it is for what I feel a good reason. Watching them lose game after game after game is more painful than getting a root canal without any anesthesia. Plus, they’re in the same boat as the U.S. Men & Women’s Relay teams right now, at least in my book.

With that said, go Brazil.

While the event is still a year away, invitations are already being sent out and one of the first went to the full time commander and chief and part-time shooting guard, Barack Obama, whose already reserved his seat.

President Obama, whose late father was Kenyan, has indicated he will attend the event on June 11 next year when the first World Cup to be staged on African soil begins.

“Of course the schedule of heads of state can change, but he has said he will be there if he can.”–FIFA President, Sepp Blatter

This must mean my invitation is en route now. That’s the only logical explanation as to why Barack got his before me.
