"TOP 5 DEAD OR ALIVE, AND THAT'S JUST OFF ONE CLICK…"

Posted by J. Tinsley on May 30, 2009

When VIBE constructed their list of the top 50 hip-hop blogs on the net, many bloggers were upset because of their exclusion from the list. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish CRM was included on the list, but at the end of the day, it’s about paying dues and grinding it out through the most trying times. At the end of the day, this is still a relatively new site, so expecting to compete with blogs that have been around for three-to-four years is quite the arduous task…even if the layout and content is more appealing.

Anywho, it began to charge my memory bank and the decision to form my own list was created. However, 50 blogs will not be mentioned, rather it will be a list of the top five sites I tend to visit on a constant basis.

Hit the jump.

5. Maurice Garland–His site should have been higher up on VIBE’s list in my opinion, but that’s neither here nor there. Mo’ G covers southern hip-hop better than damn near any other site who attempts to fulfill the same avenue as M.G. However, what sets him apart, is his commentary and the ability to gain exclusive video footage. Pretty good guy to know on Twitter too.

4. Fake Shore Drive–Andrew’s spot has been the origin of some of the dopest Chi-Town records and videos to drop in the past few years from Kanye, to Twista, to Common, to Lupe, to Bump J, to, well…you get the point. FSD is the premiere location for everything Chicago music. And for those that don’t know the Windy City’s music scene is legendary. Do your homework.

3. The New Music Cartel–Honestly, you can’t choose just one because they all break the records. As far as new music, new videos, new everything is concerned, there isn’t anyone comingclose to knokcing them off their high horse. They’re cocky and they know, but honestly, who could blame them? These guys are the reason I switched from an “exclusive songs” website to a commentary based one. True story.

2. Rap Radar–With OG Bobby Johnson at the helm, it’s no surprise that other than Drake, the RR team is probably having the best year in hip-hop. Already one of the most respect blogs on the net, the site’s influence will only increase over time and with YN on your team, you’re never at a disadvantage. B. Dot is also one of the ‘nets fastest rising bloggers. Other than me, of course. Or not.

1. The Smoking SectionThis shouldn’t have been a surprise due to the above picture. Hands down the greatest site on the internet simply because of the management. Gotty (the creator of TSS) has established the premiere blog on the net by assembling a cast of writers who all mesmerize with their gramatically correct posts and witty personalities. To be completely truthful, I check TSS at least four times a day.
